Google Ads vs Meta Ads: which should you spend on first?

    6 min read

Search advertising catches demand. Social advertising creates it. Here is how to work out which one your business needs first.

    The core difference

Google Ads meets people who are already looking. Somebody types geyser repair Durban and you appear. The intent is high and the sale is often the same day.

Meta Ads interrupt people who were not looking at all. That sounds worse, but it is how you reach a much bigger audience and how you sell things nobody thinks to search for.

    Start with Google if

People actively search for what you do, especially urgent or problem-solving services.

    • You fix, repair or install something
    • You are a professional service like legal, accounting or medical
    • Your customers have an immediate problem
    • You already know the phrases people use

    Start with Meta if

Your product is visual, impulse-driven, or something people do not know exists yet.

    • You sell physical products online
    • You run events, hospitality or tourism
    • You have strong photos or video
    • You are launching something new

    What most businesses land on

After a few months, the usual answer is both. Google captures the people ready to buy, Meta keeps you in front of everyone else and brings back visitors who left without enquiring.

Whichever you start with, set up conversion tracking first. Running ads without tracking is just paying for guesses.
